No, we were not too
old to have babies! Mona is pregnient and are expected to give birth january 21. 1998. We have enjoyed our 10 Years together without children, but at a certain point, You have to ask Yourself: If You want children, not now or later, but now or never! We look forward to expanding the family, allthough it is expected to have a major effect on our daily selfcentered and jobconcerning routines. |

See here the newest picture taken of our baby, or "My" as we call it. We don't know the sex. We could have know, due to some tests taken, but we chose not to. As well as You don't open presents before Christmas Eve. Now You can clearly see the head and most of the body. According to the Hospital , "My" is approximately 20 cm. long. The picture has been taken at Frederiksbeg Hospital august 21. 1997. |

This is not a picture of our baby, but a picture from the book: Graviditet - Fødsel - Det nyfødte barn (Pregniancy - Birth - The newborn child), published by SCA Mölnlycke. The photo is taken by Lennart Nilsson, and shows a baby 18 weeks old, which is 1-2 weeks younger than "My" at the picture above. - Notice how "complete" the child is. Actually it just needs to grow bigger. |
| What is actually happening under the pregniancy for mother and child? | |
| 3. week | This is here it all starts. A sperm cell fertilizes an egg. |
| 4. week | The egg is app. ½ mm. big and has fixed in the womb. It is fed from the blood vessels in the wombs mocous membrane. The placenta is taking its form around it. |
| 5. week | The child is app. 2 mm. long and You would be able to see it with Your eyes. The spine is shaping and the brain is devided into 2 halfs. Now the woman is concidering possibel pregniancy, and a pregniancy-test will prove it. There can be tensions in the mothers breasts, and toiletvisits are increasing. |
| 6. week | The chils now has a body and a head and beginning to grow teeth. The poor mother is probably sick every morning, and she is having a blueish womb mouth. |
| 7. week | The childs head is taking a human shape, in spite of its size at only 1,3 cm. long.The mother is now torturing from possible dizzyness, and some black knobs on the nipples are visible. |
| 8. week | Now the child already has formed the most vital internal organs. The are off course not fully growed, because the child is only 2 cm. long. The mother have received new plagues: Discharge from vagina and maybe some odd eatinghabits. |
| 9. week | Fingers and toes on the child kan be distinguished. The mother is now maybe suffering from bleeding gums and nosebleed. The father is now also hit, because the mother has probably lost some lust for sex. |
| 10. week | The child is now whole 6 cm. long, and is lying in a womb at the size of an orange. The father can chear up a little, by enjoying one of the mothers changes: Somewhat bigger and copious breast. |
| 11. week | Boy or girl? - It's now settled, because testikels or ovary is formed. The hard plagues on mother is a little reduced: She is probably not sick every morning now. All the changes has increased the amount of the mothers blood. |
| 12. week | The weight of the child is now around 18 g. It has now grown eyelid and is thumbling aroung ind the womb. The mothers wardrobe is probably "shrinking in the closet". |
| 13. week | Now the child is actually fully shaped. It just needs to grow big and strong. |
| 14. week | The child has now grown hair on the head, and is moving both head backwards and arms and legs. It has now reached a size at app. 12 cm. The mother is not quite as tired any more, but You can see a dark stripe downwards from her navel. The womb has now reached grapefruit-size. |
| 15. week | Blond or brunette? That decides the production of pigment right now. Some sporadic breathings with movements of the cheast is trained by the child. The mothers heart is running in the highest gear, fealt like palpitation. The wardrobe now surely has to include specific pregniancy-clothes. |
| 16. week | Maybe the child isn't a "tough nail" yet, but nails on fingers and toes, it has. It is now app. 16 cm. long and weight 135 g. The mother might have a sticking pain along the side of the stomach, caused by expandings. |
| 17. week | The child now weights more than the placenta. It can hear sounds and yawn. The mother is tortured from more sweat and a tight nose because of the increased amount of blood. |
| 18. week | 20 cm. is the child now, and it can suck fingers and swallow. The mother might be able to feel life, especially if it is her 1. child. |
| 19. week | Foundings for the childs staying teeths is now made. The poor mother is just getting bigger at her bum and is now sweating even more. It is due to the change of her metabolism and the increased activity of her thyroid gland. |
| 20. week | The child is now 25 cm., and its heart is beating app. 130 times per minute. It can be heard with a stethoscope. The mother's navel is now maybe turned inside out. |
| 21. week | 450 grams weights the child now, and it's eager to move. Heartburn and acid regurgitation is now the mothers concern. |
| 22. week | When mother is sleeping, the child is active. Mother's gums might be swelled. |
| 23. week | Mother and child now has some things in common: Sporadic labour pains. |
| 24. week | Allready 32 cm. long and ½ kilo in weight is the child. If You sing songs now, the newborn baby will probably be able to recognize them. The child can kick along with the mother if she is in bad mood some day. Parts og the childs body can be felt from outside. |
| 25. week | The bones of the child is getting firm. Another plague has hit the mother: Calfconvulsions |
| 26. week | The childs skin is now not so transparent any more. The child has periods with regularly breathingmovements. |
| 27. week | The skin of the child might not be transparent, but it is wrinkled and protected by embryofatt. |
| 28. week | A whole kilo is now the weight of the child. Its consciousness is formed. The mother has started her carrier as "dairy", because some milk (colostrum) starts to ooze from the breasts. |
| 29. week | The child is now peeing and drinks daily about ½ liter amniotic fluid, that secretes as urine. The mother now feels how the child is pressuring her bowels. |
| 30. week | The lungs of the child is now almost mature, and the heartbeat can be heard with a simple homemade stethoscope. Size and weight can be judged quite accurate, not only by calculated averages. Premature labour pains is not rare.. |
| 31. week | Around 1½ kilo is the childs weight now. The mother is for sure so troubled, that stairways aren't friendly any more. |
| 32. week | About 40 cm. long is the child. Mother can (in Denmark) start her leave if she has specific (hard/dangerous) jobtypes. It may be nescessary, because she might sway when she walks. If the child should decide to be delievered now, it will brobably survive, after some longer time in an incubator. |
| 33. week | Maybe the child has the head downwards now. You might sense it, because it is not impossible, feeling on the stomach, to almost grab a foot or the bottom from time to time. |
| 34. week | The child can now see the difference of light and dark, and has grown a pink tan in the skin. |
| 35. week | Now the child has a weight of almost 2½ kilo. The mother is suffering from backpains, while the muscles is getting slack. |
| 36. week | 45 cm. and almost full-grown is the child now. The mother (if she lives in Denmark) can now for sure enjoy her maternity leave. |
| 37. week | Shit! - The bowels of the child is now filled with meconium, the first bowel movements. Mother and midwife have now a close relationship The midwife can tell if the childs head has taken a firm position. |
| 38. week | The child is gaining weight, about 30 g. a day. The space for movements is rapidly reducing. The amniotic fluid is renewed every 3 hour by the childs urine and fluid from its lungs. The mother can clearly feel the childs head against the bottom of her pelvis. |
| 39. week | The mother is now unable to sleep at nights. (Neither is the father probably.) - The womb mouth is getting soft. |
| 40. week | 3½ kilo is the standard weight of the child, and is together with mother preparing for labour. The childs head is for sure pressing firmly against the mothers soft womb mouth. |
